Online Safety Training		Sam Church, BA, MA Managing Director Professional Experience: Sam is the Managing Director of The Safety Department, Inc.®, which he helped to establish in November 1997. He provides workplace safety, risk management, crisis/emergency planning, loss prevention, and corporate security consultation to a variety of businesses and industries. He is also writing and marketing several safety-related software applications. Prior to establishing the consulting firm, he served on the corporate staff of two "Fortune 200" companies: Browning-Ferris Industries and CSX Transportation. As Director-Risk Management, and subsequently, Director- Environment, Safety & Health for BFI, he developed and implemented strategies that dramatically reduced vehicle accidents, employee injuries, and returned millions of dollars annually to the bottom line. Sam has been authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor and OSHA to instruct both their thirty and ten hour courses in Safety Standards for General Industry, as well as for Construction. He is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, Bureau of Workers Compensation as a trainer in loss prevention in accordance with criteria set forth in PA Act 57. In addition, he has received safety credentials from The University of California, The State University of New York, and West Virginia University. He has also successfully completed HazMat Emergency Responder training at the Texas Fire School - Texas A&M University. Before becoming a safety professional with CSX, Sam spent twelve years as a police officer in Kentucky, Michigan and Pennsylvania, in various uniformed and plain-clothes capacities. He was also a visiting instructor at the university level, and assisted in academic research resulting in several publications, presentations and scholarly papers. Education: Sam holds a BA in Telecommunications and a Masters in Organizational Communication / Organizational Behavior from the University of Kentucky. He has also completed course work toward the Ph.D. in social psychology.
